1. How did you start blogging? Why do you keep at it?
I read an article about blogs at Wired.com and immediately wanted to start my own. At first I intended to write essays about politics, social issues and just life in general but my blog now is almost nothing like what I originally had in mind. I keep at it because I enjoy the community aspect of blogging.
2. What are your most important issues?
Politically, national security is probably the biggest thing on my mind but I'm equally concerned about freedom of choice, privacy and separation of church and state. Other than politics, my biggest issue is the decline of culture and the American public's general lack of interest in anything that isn't heavily advertised on TV.
3. What's the nicest recognition you've ever received from the media and/or the blogosphere?
I haven't been noticed by the media. I've been linked by Instapundit twice but neither time for a post I would like to have shown off. The links that give me the biggest thrill are links from 2 Blowhards and from Terry Teachout. The don't give me anywhere near the traffic spike I would get from Instapundit but being noticed by such intelligent and cultured people, especially Terry who is a famous writer, is by far the most flattering recognition I could possibly receive.
4. Who is your audience? What is unique about your blog?
My main audience are people who are interested in the arts, especially classical music. I think my perspective is unique because my background is pretty low down on the social ladder but I've had contact with quite a few elite people online so I have picked up an appreciation for quality and tradtion in the arts along with a healthy contempt for pop-classical artists like Charlotte Church but at the same time I've maintained a dislike of the pretentions of the
elite and I'm both offended and contemptuous at the way people in the east coast cities tend to look down on the rest of the country. I'm actually a little bit elitist and a little bit redneck so it's kind of hard for a lot of people to grasp where I'm coming from.
5. Most frustrating aspect of blogging?
The lack of feedback (comments, email) and readers' expectations are nearly tied as "most frustrating." I
have readers on both sides of the political fence who read my blog because they're interested in what I have
to say about music or the links I post but when I share my political opinions I sometimes get email from people telling me that they are disappointed or that they are "uncomfortable" reading my blog, which makes me uncomfortable about posting anything political. Fortunately most of my readers are not like that but it only takes one to make me feel bad.
6. What's the one point you'd like a reader to take away from your blog- the one thing for them to really "get"?
That the arts are exciting, not stuffy and boring like most people think, but only if you make an effort to understand them and accept them for what they are. You can't reduce the arts to the level of pop culture.

(It was very hard to pick just one.)
