I'm totally in favor of equal civil rights for everyone. I'm absolutely pro-Gay rights in everything. I just think that the concept of "Gay" and "straight" are very "last century", They smack of patriarchial, "either/or" thinking that just isn't applicable to living organisms. We just don't make sense. We can't be sliced up into neat little categories. We are sexual beings and whom and what we are attracted to is influenced far more by proximity and opportunity than any pre-disposition we might have.
Men in prison will develop homosexual relationships in absence of female companionship. The most macho, "straight" Alpha male will turn to his own kind if that is all that is available. In contrast, I have friends with Gay fathers, clients who are Gay and yet married women and raised children.I've seen "straight" women make passes at other women. Necessity creates bedfellows of all description. Proximity will eventually lead to attraction between any two sexual beings.
I consider the terms "Gay" and "Straight" to be political terms. I find that they are usually more descriptive of a person's world view than they are of whom that person might as a sex partner. Yes, I acknowledge that most people will naturally lean one way or the other. I just say that there are no absolutes. I also say that we would be much better off if we simply saw each other as sexual beings and respected that. Life would be easier and more fair is we didn't make assumptions as to whom and how we should love. All love is a good thing and it is in far too short supply.
