What She Said!

The next time some guy asks you where all the female bloggers are,
tell him What She Said!

Calling all Bloggers, Readers, Citizens - We have to get together!

Hey, Y'all-

If you're like me, you're feeling overwhelmed. Between the
Lies, the Iraq War, the Cover-up, the Smear Campaign against Joe Wilson, the Leak of a covert CIA Operative's Identity, Karl Rove and Scooter Libby (at least) being TRAITORS, a reactionary tool being nominated to the Supreme Court, Torture in Gitmo and Abu Graib and the constant assault on science and human rights being waged by the Religious Right, and let's never forget the STOLEN ELECTIONS and the greed and corruption of this Administration -- well, it's a lot to take in.

WE ARE AT WAR with the
NeoCon Death Cult. That's the only way to describe it. They're going to drag us back to a Colonial Monarchy complete with our own King George if we don't get united.

STEP 1: Join the FORUMS at BLACK BOX VOTING http://www.blackboxvoting.org.
We'll never get rid of these guys if they keep getting away with stealing elections.

Step 2: Keep the heat on KARL ROVE!
There's at least one traitor in the White House and he has to go. Period.

Step 3: Oppose John Roberts
If you haven't contacted your congress people, do it now! AU.org has the hook-up.

Step 4: Do something Every Day!
Make the commitment, right now, to do something every day about at least one of those issues.
We have to be as relentless as they are. We can't let up for a minute.

                                Lives are at stake.
                                People are dying.

Step 5: Hound the Media!

I'm going to post these addresses I got from another site*. Everybody copy them to your computer and use them!

(*If someone can tell me where, I'll put a link here, but I can't remember.)

Step 1: Okay here, making sure the voting system is fair should be non-partisan.

Step 2: You will lose. Karl Rove will be there as long as Bush is there.

Step 3: You will lose. John Roberts will be the next Supreme Court Justice.

Step 4: I (and many others) will do something everyday too. We will blog to try to block all of the misguided policies of the left. Who will win this is much less clear because once liberal policies are put in place, they are extremely hard to dislodge (affirmative action using discrimination, forced unionism, anti-poverty programs, Corporate welfare for the "deserving", zoning laws, government funded candidates, funding of leftist non-profit groups, pay-as-you-go retirement benefits, public section unions, and so on.)

Virtually the entire leftist agenda is an effort to reduce freedom in the name of equality. The only exception is abortion (unless you consider the freedom of a developing unborn baby to be violated).

And I thought all feminists disappeared in the 1970s. I have not known a single person since the 1970's that would call themselves a feminist. The term is seen to mean a leftist radical, and few want to wear that label.

I'd call myself a feminist - I don't want to see any woman precluded from opportunity because of her gender. (Though neither am I out to make women more equal than men through government control).

But as Dan said, the policies of the left are precisely to impose government control over personal decisions in the name of equality.

Not only does increased government control restrict peoples' freedom, government control over personal decisions also causes numerous other problems through the law of unintended consequences. [One example: drug control laws (such as prohibition in 1920s) drive up the market price of illegal drugs, making selling drugs more lucrative, and organized crime steps in.]

Wow, where are you guys getting your information?

First, I agree that fair elections is an American issue that shouldn't be a partisan issue.

I don't know of a liberal who is in favor of Corporate Welfare, though - we'd rather see that money go to the poor and the sick rather than wealthy people who don't need it to begin with.

And I'm against all forms of prohibition. I've said for years that if you want to support organized crime, just keep drugs illegal. You have to deal with the reality of who people are, and there are certain people that are going to get high no matter what restrictions you place on them. Also, if you can't keep drugs out of the prisons, you should be able to figure out that you aren't going to keep them out of the country.

I don't believe in big government, just a fair one that maintains enough order that people can live their lives. It's doing a piss poor job of that right now.

As for feminists, I don't know where you live, bud, but I know hundreds of feminist Witches and thousands of feminists. You should get out more.

Really? A "piss poor job"?

Chaos reigns in your neighborhood? No electricity? No police? No medical services? No food, water, or shelter??

Or do you prefer something a bit more exciting?

This kind of rash statement undermines anything else you say. The "government" is of the people, by the people, and for the people. It has long been a corrupt affair. The world is run by those who have not by those who have not. It's always been that way and to pretend it will change and suddenly we'll be in Utopia is naive.

How 'bout this -- go do your best at something. Make a difference, do what you love and perhaps you'll be a "have" who can influence things at the top.

OK, let's look at my neighborhood. I live in one of the poorest and most underdeveloped areas of the United States, Eastern Kentucky. Most people have no health insurance, and we can't keep enough doctors in the area. We have one of the highest rates of unemployment, illiteracy and violence in the U.S. It is not uncommon to find houses here with no plumbing of any kind, and the ground water isn't potable because of the mining industry.

Local government is corrupt, and getting involved with politics here can get you killed. They play so dirty down here that the BBC did a documentary about the violence in Kentucky elections. The main cash crop in Kentucky is marijuana, and the violence surrounding the illegal drug trade adds to the violence in the culture. Meth labs are everywhere, and this was the origin of the Oxycontin craze. That's why it's called "hillbilly heroin".

We elected a county representative that wasn't part of the local "machine" and he was framed for vote buying. Between the local FBI agent, who was related to one of the opponents in the election, and the Bush-appointed judge, they've been able to undo the results of a legal election and lock up the one guy in the election who DIDN'T pay for votes.

The state is run by wealthy mining and tobacco industries, which employs a few people, but basically siphons off the resources here and sends the wealth that is generated out of state.

The Right Wing extremists are so out of hand here, that a man was killed yesterday for voicing his disapproval of the Iraq war. There's an active local militia which appears to have connections to neo-fascism, though I don't know that for sure. I just know a lot of them are skinheads, and I'm not about to get close enough to know any more.

And, how dare you assume that I haven't done what I can to make things better? I have worked, both inside the system and without, my whole life. Right now, my writing is all I can manage, but I'm doing it. I've "been there" long enough to find out that I'm just not white enough to influence the powers that be, and to know that they don't give a shit about anyone but themselves.

If the people want change, we have to create it. If my writing seems extreme, it's because I live in an extreme situation under extreme conditions.

The problems I've spoken of here aren't unknown in cities, either. There are 3 million homeless children in America right now, and not enough shelters to help them and their families. Jobs are flying out of this country and nothing is being developed to replace them. We are one of the most poorly educated, under-traveled populations of all the industrialized countries, and our infant mortality rate is shameful.

Maybe you think our government is "good enough" but that might be because you have what you need. Those of us who are struggling see things that you'll never have to deal with. That's doesn't make you superior or more successful - it makes you lucky. I just hope you never become poor or disabled, because you're in for a rude awakening. The support system you think is there to catch you isn't any more.
