Let's greet Alito with a Pandemic of our own...
Now that the holidays are over, it's time to get serious about blocking the Alito nomination to the Supreme Court. The right to privacy covers a lot more than abortion - this fight is about whether government can legally invade our privacy the way Bush has been doing illegally. If you don't want to find yourself in a fascist state, you'd better act now. I say it's time for a Pandemic.
No, I'm not talking Avian Flu - I'm talking Pink Flu. I'm talking about 53% of the population refusing to show up. No work, or if that's not an option, a work slow-down. No sex with men that think we're less than human. No spending, no selling, no doctoring or nursing, or trading or counseling or teaching - nothing. The world is built on women's work. Let's see how they like trying to do it all without us. A Women's Strike (men can play, too) against anyone and anything that doesn't actively support our rights to determine our own destiny. It's time to demand that we be treated like full and equal human beings and that means we decide the disposition of our own wombs, and we have a right to keep our private communications private.
Ideally, this could be timed to coincide with the Alito hearings, with an eye toward also letting the Democratic Party know that we won't support anti-choice candidates for any reason, period. If a strike like this were going to work, it would have to be widely publicized. I'm asking all of you to spread the word, and let's see how quickly we can create a buzz.
We have everything to lose - stand up and fight.
