Al'Uzza, Allat, and Manat, the Triple Goddesses of Arabia

by Thalia Took-- wicca art wiccan graphics goddess magical pagan art

A reader who is familiar with the Pre-Mohammedan Triple Goddess of Arabia sent me to that link. Thalis Took is a well-known artist who specializes in Goddess images and she has a nice write up about the three aspects of the Goddess. One interesting note is that this system was what I call "Aphrodesian" - it featured a Sun Goddess and the sender tells me that Allah was at one point a moon god.

I believe these are important images, not only to balance out the atrocity of patriarchy, but to counter the reinforcement many Wiccans give to the active solar male/ passive lunar Female stereotypes when they practice dualism. As further confirmation, some of the Tripartite aspects are associated with Aphrodite Urania. Other correspondences include the Morning Star, the Evening Star, Earth, fertility and prosperity.

Al-Uzza and Al-Lat were sometimes confused, but for the most part these three formed the basic Maiden, Mother, Crone triad known throughout the Middle East and Europe.

Chanced on your blog looking up a reference to Alan Watts. I love it, I love it, I love it!
