AlterNet: A Bad Year for Goliath
Rebecca Solnit has written an interesting article summing up some of the developments in world politics in 2005. When you look at the overall picture, we have greedy, ineffective leaders, but there have been populist uprisings all over the world. South America shows distinct trends to the left, and Bush seems to have seriously over-played his hand here and abroad. Let's hope this trend of people taking back their power continues.
American mayors banded together to do what Bush would not - to sign on to the Kyoto Protocol. Let's keep in mind that we have San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsome to thank for turning the tide on gay marriage. Did you ever think the United States would be less progressive than Spain? South Africa? We are. Both of those countries, along with Great Britain and several Scandanavian countries have legalized gay marriage nationally.
And, praise Goddess, the U.S. press has started talking about impeachment. 2006 could be a very good year. Now where's the boycott of the New York Times that is long overdue? Let's get on with it!
