Another Hate Crime in America- Where is Ashcroft?

My letter to the Reporter:

Hello, Ms. Clark-

I wanted to thank you for your article. A couple of points I’d like to mention. First, the words Witch and Pagan should be capitalized, just as you would Christian or Muslim. It may seem a small point, but it is important to understand that as Pagans we must demand to be treated equally, so our faith and our Goddess deserve the same consideration that members of other belief systems receive.

The more important point is, why is this not being investigated as a hate crime? As terrorism? People are systematically terrorizing this woman for her beliefs. We have local and national authorities who are supposed to protect American citizens from this kind of bigotry. Where are they? This is criminal behavior, worthy of the Ku Klux Clan or Al Quaeda. Where is the Sheriff? Where is the FBI or the Department of Justice? These agencies are derelict in their duties and must be called to task by the media.

Please continue to cover this story. This is an American problem. We cannot allow bigots to undermine a person’s First Amendment right to free speech or freedom of religion – if one of us in this country is oppressed, then we are all oppressed. If the promise of America is to live on in us, it must be available to us each in full measure.
